On Tuesday, the stock markets in the United States presented a mixed picture, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average remaining relatively flat due to a lack of impetus, while the Nasdaq 100 index surged towards a record high.

Driving the Nasdaq 100’s rise were significant gains in heavyweight stocks such as Apple, Tesla, Amazon, Google’s parent company Alphabet, and Meta. Both Apple and Amazon’s shares reached all-time highs. Currently, the Nasdaq 100 is up by 0.65 percent at 19,940 points, approaching its previous record of over 20,000 points reached on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood nearly unchanged at 39,182 points. The world’s most famous stock market barometer moved within a very narrow daily range. The broad S&P 500 index increased by 0.25 percent to reach 5,489 points.

This week’s economic highlight will occur on Friday with the release of the US jobs report. This report could provide crucial insights into the extent and pace of potential interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve, or conversely, their absence, which could lead to disappointment and declining prices in the stock market. Before that, trading will be shortened on Wednesday, and markets will be closed on Thursday for Independence Day celebrations.

Among individual stocks, the news was scarce. Tesla shares continued their recent rally, climbing another 8 percent to reach their highest level since January. The electric car manufacturer delivered more vehicles in the second quarter than analysts had anticipated. Tom Narayan from RBC Bank mentioned that deliveries in the US and Europe likely improved in June.

In response to renewed acquisition speculation, shares of Paramount Global rose by 4.3 percent. According to the New York Times, billionaire Barry Diller is considering gaining control of the media conglomerate. Previous discussions between the parent company of TV channels CBS, MTV, and Nickelodeon and competitor Skydance Media did not succeed. Paramount, Diller’s media company IAC, and National Amusements have not yet commented on the report, as per Bloomberg.
