In Agartala, the secretary of Bharat Ratna Sangha, a prominent club in Tripura, was tragically shot dead by armed assailants. The incident took place late Tuesday at Usha Bazar, where Durga Prasanna Deb was attacked by five assailants. The police have acted swiftly, arresting one of the accused identified as Pradyut Dhar Chowdhury.
According to West Tripura District Superintendent of Police Kiren Kumar K., the assailants approached the victim’s car with their faces covered. Deb, upon seeing one of the assailants, lowered the window of his car, only to be met with three shots fired at close range, resulting in his immediate death. Law enforcement agencies are currently engaged in intensive raids to capture the remaining culprits.
In response to the incident, local BJP leader and former MLA Dilip Das refrained from speculating on the motive behind the attack, but insinuated that the police and others were aware of the factors leading to this tragic murder. Das highlighted Chief Minister Manik Saha’s commitment to eradicating crime and drugs from Tripura, indicating a strong stance from the state government against criminal activities.
The state’s efforts to ensure a safe and drug-free environment have been underscored by Das, emphasizing the government’s determination to eliminate criminal elements. With the police actively working on the case, there is a firm resolve to bring all perpetrators to justice and uphold the rule of law in Tripura.
