Denison University softball showcased their dominance in the North Coast Athletic Conference with an outstanding performance against Kenyon College. The Big Red secured a doubleheader sweep, starting with an 8-2 victory in the first game. The team’s strong start saw the first four batters reach base, setting the tone for the game. Indy Workman, Brooke Surbaugh, Alessandra Groome, and Annabelle Calderon all contributed to an early lead for Denison. The standout moment came from Leilah Ferrari with a three-run double, solidifying the Big Red’s momentum.
Pitching was another key factor in the game, with Surbaugh and Madilyn Moffitt delivering solid performances on the mound. Surbaugh’s strong pitching combined with offensive prowess from Workman, Surbaugh, and Ferrari ensured Denison’s victory. The team’s exceptional hitting resulted in seven of their 12 hits being extra-base hits, highlighting their offensive power.
In the second game, Denison continued their dominant display with a commanding 9-0 win over Kenyon. The team’s hitting was on full display, with Jordyn Maurer, Annabelle Calderon, and Alessandra Groome leading the charge. Calderon’s impressive cycle and six RBIs stole the show, showcasing her offensive prowess. Sydney Silverstein’s stellar pitching performance culminated in a shutout victory, further solidifying Denison’s strong showing.
With this victory, Denison improved to 20-10 overall and maintained a 7-3 record in the NCAC. The team’s remarkable performance against Kenyon marked their seventh series sweep since 2016, underlining their consistent success.
