Brand im Dachgeschoss: Bewohner kämpfen mit gefährlichem Feuer – Ein Glück im Unglück

In Hamm, specifically on Viktoriastraße, a fire broke out in the attic of a house. The incident occurred on the evening of June 3rd, with the fire department receiving a call around 7:20 pm. Initially, there was uncertainty about potential residents still inside the building, prompting the use of the alarm code „fire with lives in danger.“

Upon arrival, the firefighters noticed smoke emerging from the attic windows, accompanied by the smell of burnt plastic spreading on the street. A team wearing breathing apparatus entered the burning apartment and quickly confirmed that no occupants remained in the building. Subsequently, firefighting operations commenced, with the team utilizing a C hose to combat the flames. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, as stated by the incident’s leader, Stefan Deuse.

It was revealed that the residents had attempted to extinguish the fire themselves using a powder extinguisher. This method, however, was not recommended as the smoke from the fire accumulates in enclosed spaces, potentially leading to unconsciousness due to inhaling toxic carbon monoxide after a few breaths. Thankfully, luck was on their side, and no harm befell them.

The probable cause of the fire was traced back to an electrical device, according to Deuse. After 40 minutes, the operation concluded, but the room affected by the fire was rendered uninhabitable. Throughout the operation, the police cordoned off the streets to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Cosackstraße to Beukenbergstraße.

Preceding this incident, a recent fire in a house’s hallway had caused distress among the residents, suspected to be a case of severe arson. Such incidents highlight the importance of fire safety measures and the risks associated with attempting to tackle fires without professional assistance.
