In Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, a shocking incident unfolded as a perpetrator shot his wife in the head, leading to an alarming situation. The assailant, identified as 34-year-old Mehmet Ö., remains at large following the violent act. The gruesome event transpired around 11 a.m. within a residence on the 6th floor of a building on Hochstraße in the Eilpe district.

After firing shots in the shared apartment, the perpetrator proceeded to the 7th floor, firing multiple rounds through a locked door, fortunately without causing injuries. Subsequently, he exited the building, got into his Mercedes, and traveled to a nearby hair salon. There, he wounded three individuals with gunshots, while a fourth suffered acoustic trauma, with one person remaining in critical condition.

Investigators suspect the motive behind the attack to be related to domestic matters, as stated by a police spokesperson. Shedding light on the assailant’s character, the cousin of the perpetrator expressed shock over the situation, highlighting his calm demeanor and mentioning that he had no apparent issues. Furthermore, the perpetrator shares four children with his wife, adding complexity to the tragic incident.

Efforts to apprehend the fleeing attacker are underway, with a large-scale search operation in progress. Initial concerns of the perpetrator seeking refuge inside a nearby discount store have been dispelled, leading law enforcement to focus on scouring the adjacent woodland. Witnesses reported spotting the assailant abandoning his vehicle in the store’s parking lot and fleeing into the forest upon seeing the approaching police officers.

Amid the ongoing search operation conducted with the assistance of special units from throughout North Rhine-Westphalia, including drones, police helicopters, and canine units, the situation remains fluid.
