Potsdams Zukunft auf zwei Rädern: Der Weg zur echten Fahrradstadt

Will Potsdam become a true bicycle city?

What’s the story: Potsdam’s cyclists have been increasingly dissatisfied with their infrastructure due to numerous dangerous spots, deteriorating paths, and limited space. How can the city make cyclists feel welcomed again in their own city?

The current situation: Only about one in four journeys in the city of Potsdam is made by bicycle. This is set to change, with a target for cycling to account for 35 percent of traffic by 2030.

What’s next: ADFC, the cycling club, is demanding the annual expansion and renovation of ten kilometers of bike paths. However, this would require a significantly greater financial investment. At present, the budget is just over one million euros per year, while ADFC is advocating for six times that amount.

Autobahn Shortcut Routes: Werder Prohibits Trucks from Passing

Here’s the situation: Due to two autobahn construction sites, a surge of cars and trucks is flowing through Werder, bypassing traffic jams on the A10 and causing chaotic conditions.

The current state: In response, the city has enforced a ban on truck traffic on Am Plessower See street to protect residents and the infrastructure of the surrounding streets.

What to expect: Both the city and the CDU-FDP-BBT faction are urging the Autobahn GmbH to accelerate construction work, as another construction site is slated to exacerbate the issue soon.

Arrival of the Extraordinary: The First Three Rotor Blades for the Wind Park in Ferch Have Arrived

What’s happening here: The initial three rotor blades for the Dachsberg wind park in Ferch, Schwielowsee, have been delivered. Heavy transports are allowed only at night, with maneuvering through the woods posing a significant challenge.

Where’s the conflict: Some locals oppose the wind park in the forest. The association „Waldkleeblatt – Natürliche Zauche“ has objected to the construction of wind turbines, citing tree felling and interference in the forest. A legal challenge against construction was dismissed in September 2023.

What’s next: The blades are designated for turbine number twelve, the first to be fully assembled. The tower with the machinery house is already in place. Ultimately, the wind turbine will stand at 244 meters high and generate electricity for up to 35,000 households from the seven approved wind turbines.
